The Apprentice – You’re Fired…I Mean Hired!

The Apprentice – You’re Fired…I Mean Hired!

Mont Blanc Pencil

The team at Ideal Lifts want to give a huge congratulations to Kieran Coyle our ‘newly qualified’ Digital Design Engineer.

We are all very proud of the hard work he has undertaken to complete an NVQ level 3 Diploma in Built Environment Design (Architecture).

Kieran joined our team back in September 2018 as an apprentice, initially spent the first 4 months studying an Intensive Digital CAD Course in partnership with CADCOE (Construction and Design Centre of Excellence), at Dudley College before joining us to work at our Head Office in Devon.

During his time with us, Kieran has overhauled our Builders Works Drawings to create a new digital Construction Work Booklet, which has been well received by our customers and installers.

As well as working on designs in the office he has been out and about on site, learning in a ‘hands on’ capacity to help get a feel for our Ideal Lifts Frame Structure, which has led to him making improvements to safety and installation methods as well as the design.

Kieran is currently working on a new Integrated access platform within the Ideal Lifts Frame System to create a safe system of work throughout the installation phase.

Going forward Kieran will continue his studies with an HNC & HND in Lift Technology and is currently completing his Supervisory CSCS Card and SSSTS qualification which will give him more industry specific knowledge.

Kieran (known affectionately in the office as Leonardo) was presented with a Mont Blanc technical pencil and the team celebrated his success with an evening out.

In addition to his day job, Kieran is also a retained firefighter in the local area so will often be seen dashing from the office to go out on a shout.

Apprentice Design Engineer….one year on

Apprentice Design Engineer….one year on

Autodesk

Our Apprentice Design Engineer Kieran Coyle has now been with us for 1 year. During that time, Kieran has spent the first 4 months studying an Intensive Digital CAD Course in partnership with CADCOE (Construction and Design Centre of Excellence), at Dudley College.

Since January Kieran has joined us here at head office, working on various projects, including one to overhaul our technical information to create digital booklets and information.

Kieran has been out to visit various projects on site and in October ’18 he spent a week assisting with the installation of our Ideal Lifts Frame System in a timber frame residential project and is spending this week working on an LGS build project.

Most recently Kieran has been collaborating at the latest Buildoffsite Residential Hub meeting which included a tour of the Autodesk Technology Centre in Birmingham. One of the many interesting people he met at the meeting was Managing Director, Rick Holliday from Factory_OS.

One of the major projects Kieran has been working on since joining us, is using his digital knowledge to help Ideal Lifts realise our goal of becoming a paperless office. He has overhauled our current Builders Work Drawings (BWDs) to produce a new digital booklet.

Kieran has been out to visit various project sites to help him gain hands on experience with our Ideal Lifts Frame System, as well as spending a few days assisting on site with a frame mounted lift installation.

Offsite Collaboration – Residential Hub

Offsite Collaboration – Residential Hub

Frame System Presentation

Ideal Lifts MD Gary Bright & Director David Whorwood were invited by BUILDOFFSITE to join the Residential debate.

Challenging traditional thinking and disrupt the processes and complexities of conventional bespoke lift shaft construction on offsite projects. How ongoing collaboration with other members utilising our Ideal Lifts Frame System within the supply chain can simplify and improve the design, processes, management and safety of lift design, installation and maintenance.

Frame mounted passenger lifts negate the need for traditional concrete lift shaft construction, benefiting OFFSITE:

  • Speeds up construction to deliver the project earlier to the market
  • Removes reliance on expensive skilled labour on site
  • Cost certainty with no waste
  • Very light weight compared to heavy concrete shafts vastly reducing foundation costs
  • Ideal lift frame includes for everything required for lift installation, all lifting beams, pit ladder and does not require scaffolding, building in of specialist inserts along with many other benefits
  • Enables our clients to provide a much-simplified lift shaft which is designed for OFFSITE manufacture, with fire lining that can be completed prior to site assembly, no on site cutting and patching required
  • Requiring no landing rebates, simplifying construction on and OFFSITE maintaining full fire integrity
